5th Grade - Today's learning started with Diaphanous, the vocabulary word, which means translucent, transparent. The explorer was Tom Adams an inventor. Tom's friend, Santa Anna, suggested he try inventing with chicle from Mexico. When that failed, he tried chewing it and invented chewing gum. A Surprise in the Middle drawing was today's warm up activity. The focus of the affective lesson was to have the students identify what was important to themselves. We reviewed the results of the insulated cup project then discussed ways to improve upon their designs. The final activity was to discover different items we have as a result of cultural borrowing.
2nd Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Predict which means to say that (something) will or might happen in the future. Their explorer was Sybil Luddington who warned men in her father's militia the British were heading their way. Our lesson said Sybil was a "female Paul Revere." The students had a lot of questions regarding Paul Revere so we watched a short Liberty Kids video regarding the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.
