3rd Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Spurious which means false or counterfeit. The investigator was Henry Ford, who invented the assembly line, not the automobile. A Quotation Quizzler was the warm-up activity. For evaluative thinking in Crystal Pond Woods, students had to evaluate potato chips according to their own criteria. While eating their potato chips, they watched a video about ants who are social insects. In our relationship study, we looked at number and word patterns. Our Entomology study focused on social insects and how they communicate.

Students worked on projects for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This was followed by an experiment about the earth's tectonic plates.

Donor's Choose
Dear parents and friends:
The encyclopedias used by the Enrichment students are very old and out dated. They are also very heavy and cumbersome when we have to move or change classrooms. Therefore, I have a page on the Donor's Choose web site in order to obtain Kindles with encyclopedias on them for Enrichment and would like to have you check it out. If you know of anyone that can donate to this worthy cause I would greatly appreciate their assistance in this matter. Anyone that makes a donation between now and March 19 will have their donation doubled by Donor's Choose.
Here's what you/they need to do:
Go to http://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/569531.
If you choose to donate anything or know someone that could donate something, they must enter BLOOM during check-out where it says "Match or gift code" - and voila! The donation is automatically doubled. See where donors must enter the code.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Marcia Rains

3rd Grade - The vocabulary word was Oscitant which means inattentive. Albert Einstein, who was one of the world's greatest thinkers, failed his college entrance exams. A logic elimination puzzle was today's warm-up puzzle. In Crystal Pond Woods, students completed the problem entitled, "What shall we do in class." They shared the niches of animals they researched last week. The final activity was to build a complex eye in order to simulate what a bug's complex eye would be like if people had one.

3rd Grade - Today went very quickly due to changes from the program. The vocabulary word was Oscitant which means inattentive. Albert Einstein, who was one of the world's greatest thinkers, failed his college entrance exams. A logic elimination puzzle was going to be today's warm-up puzzle. Due to the shortness of the class today, students will take it home to complete. In Crystal Pond Woods, students completed the problem entitled, "What shall we do in class." They shared the niches of animals they researched last week. The final activity was to simulate what a bug's complex eye would be like if people had one.
5th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Paunch which is another word for belly, especially a pot belly. The investigator was Elijah McCoy, the son of run away slaves who invented the "Real McCoy." Today's warm-up activity was a logic elimination puzzle. For affective thinking, students discussed ways they might gain some understanding of someone else's problems. Our structure lesson focused on the layers of the earth. Students are looking forward to completing an experiment with that lesson. They then had the opportunity to complete some more projects for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

3rd Grade - Sojourn, a short stay, brief residence, was today's vocabulary word. The investigator was Thomas Edison, who was thought to have been dull by his teachers. Today's warm-up activity was a creative drawing project from Loosen Up. In Crystal Pond Woods, students developed their own criteria and solved the problem of where to spend a vacation this year. They completed a quick research project of an animal's habitat, dining preference and activity time. The final activity was figuring out how far they could jump if they were a grasshopper.
