4th Grade - The students in these classes learned that Unflappable means someone who is unflappable has a lot of self-control and is not easily upset or frightened. Today's explorer, Martha Graham was a famous dancer whom President Ford call a "national treasure." Students solved the Stories with Holes problem for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on the generalization that being gifted means different things to different people. . The rest of class time was spent finishing up the directions for our robots, finishing up the planet brochures, and repairing our mystery creatures.

5th Grade - These students learned the word Machinate means to plot or scheme. The explorer, Robert Goddard could not convince the United States military to use his rockets during World War II. Mr. Goddard is known as the "Father of Modern Rocketry." Students were stumped by the Stories with Holes warm up activity problem. The focus of today's affective lesson was on writing your own code of conduct to follow. The rest of the morning was spent completing the Exploravision project.
2nd Grade - This group learned that Debris means the pieces that are left after something has been destroyed. Clara Barton was today's explorer. These students were able to figure out the Stories with Holes mystery.

3rd Grade - This class learned that Prospect means the possibility that something will happen in the future. Michael Jordan, today's explorer did not make his high school varsity team as a sophomore. Students listened to directions to draw the Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. Preserving the past was the focus of the affective lesson. The lesson emphasized the original Star Spangled flag. We learned about webbing as a method of brainstorming in Crystal Pond Woods. We had a few minutes to learn about the Gold Rush of 1849. Next week we hope to get to experience the difficulty of digging for gold.

Here's what we learned today:
3rd Grade - These students learned that Demand means the ability and need or desire to buy goods and services. James Earl Jones, today's explorer was a stutterer as a child. Students worked together to solve some Plexer puzzles for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on historical gifts. Students were then given some challenging math problems that centered around the original Star Spangled Banner. The final activity had students discovering crayons.
5th Grade - This class had several vocabulary words today in order to catch up with the other fifth grade groups. First, Soporific means sleep inducing. Next was Modicum which means a moderate amount. Finally, Gregarious means sociable. The class worked together to solve some Plexer puzzles for the warm up activity. Benjamin Franklin, today's explorer only had two years of formal schooling but was a life long learner. The affective lesson focused on several issues and how students would react in given situations. The rest of the class time was spent writing essays for the Exploravision contest.

1st Grade - Today the youngest of the Enrichment classes began. We learned that Ulysses S. Grant did not grow up wanting to be a soldier. Working together we solved the Mystery Object for the warm up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods students started learning about detective (convergent) thinking.
5th Grade - This class learned that Gregarious means sociable. The explorer, Benjamin Franklin only had two years of formal schooling. Students worked together to solve the Mystery Object for the warm up activity. Personally determining what is ethical and what is not ethical was the focus of the affective lesson. With the deadline quickly approaching, students persevered in working toward concluding their Exploravision projects.

The explorer, Benjamin Franklin helped write and signed four important documents in our nation's history. Students identified the Mystery Object for the warm up activity. Each team had 45 minutes to build their robots. As the building was moving along, other members of each team wrote out the directions. These directions will be sent to Angie Debo where more fourth graders will try to replicate the robot.

Their explorer Conrad Hubert, started the Ever Ready Battery Company when a friend suggested he help create a flower pot that would light up. Mr. Hubert figured if a flower pot could light up, why not a hand torch? Students created a Loosen Up drawing for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on truth and consequences. The rest of the morning was spent working on the Exploravision project.

Each student then drew a picture of what they would like their team's "robot" to look like. Everyone then had to persuade the rest of the team that their ideas was the best "robot" to build.
