3rd Grade - A Kibitzer is an onlooker who offers advice. That was today's vocabulary word. Instead of having a new investigator, students chose a past investigator that they liked and shared why that person was important to them. After a vocabulary review activity, students played 20 questions. While enjoying some delicious snacks, students learned how stars are born.

2nd Grade - Students reviewed activities from the year in Enrichment and enjoyed a time of celebration

4th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Taxidermy which means the art or operation of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of dead animals for exhibition in a lifelike state. Hellen Keller and Anne Sullimvan, who helped shape attitudes toward handicapped people were today's investigators. They played 20 questions for the warm-up activity. Review of this year's vocabulary words was through the Smartboard Kooshball activity. The Corp of Discovery/Lewis and Clark Expedition were reviewed through a Jeopardy game. The final activity was to finish watching the PBS video of the Expedition.

1st Grade - Students continued working on their creative writing skills with Yolanda the Yarnspinner. Today, they wrote good news/bad news stories. Reading activities centered on the book, The Birthday Pet by Ellen Javernick.
2nd Grade – Students looked for patterns in a variety of games.

1st Grade - These students were introduced to Max the Magician who uses shapes and patterns to solve problems. Reading activities centered around Gorgonzola: A Very STINKYsaurus by Margie Palatini.

2nd Grade - Gauge, to guess or estimate the contents or capacity of something, was today's vocabulary word. Today's investigator was Jacqueline Cochran, the first female to fly a bomber across the Atlantic. The warm-up activity was 20 questions.

These students completed a Loosen Up balloon drawing for the warm-up activity. They created their own newspapers for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Their final activity was a review of the seasons and how they are created.

5th Grade - Steppes, a vast semiarid grass-covered plain, usually lightly wooded, was today's vocabulary word. Today's investigator was Andre Garnerin, the inventor of the parachute. These students also completed the Loosen Up balloon drawing for the warm-up activity. Students completed projects on biomes as well as anything left on Lewis and Clark.




Next week will be the last week of Enrichment classes for this school year. Please have your child/ren research and bring a snack for everyone in their Enrichment class.

4th Grade - Steppes, a vast semiarid grass-covered plain, usually lightly wooded-was the vocabulary word of the day. Thomas Jefferson, not only the 3rd President of the United States, but also an avid learner was today's inventor. Students completed a balloon drawing from Loosen Up as the warm-up activity. Our philosophy question came from Marcus Arelius, "Should you let little things bother you?" The rest of the class period was spent researching inventions and inventors then completing a newspaper article about them.

1st Grade - Students were introduced to Yolanda the Yarnspinner, another friend in Crystal Pond Woods. Today students learned to change ordinary words for more colorful words in order to make a story more visual for the listener or reader.


2nd Grade - After taking a test to assess students growth in patterns this year, students began brainstorming other ways Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) could have returned to Kansas.

Students completed a Plexer word puzzle for their warm up activity. We discussed heroes after reading a couple of scenes from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The final activity was discovering the water cycle and clouds.

We thought about numbers and people for our philosophy question. Students also began studying the biomes of the endangered species they are studying for science.

4th Grade - Specimen (an individual item or part representative of a class, genus, or whole instance; a sample) was today's vocabulary word. Today's investigator was Langston Hughes, a troubadour of the Great Depression. A Plexer was today's warm-up activity. The philosophy question came from Confucius: Should you be rewarded for your effort. The system of transportation had students studying inventions and inventors.

1st Grade - This grade level was working on testing today so class was canceled.

2nd Grade - These students had a couple of projects that needed to be finished today. The first project to finish was bugs we thought should be allowed to live in the world. Second, students finished working on their plays.
