2nd Grade - We took our weekly trip to Crystal Pond Woods today. Students continued developing their visual thinking skills by playing the old Dot Game with a couple of different shapes instead of squares. This not only challenged their visual thinking, but also their convergent and divergent thinking as they had to plan their moves strategically.

4th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Qualm which means a feeling of illness; a disturbing feeling. Their explorer today was the Corps of Discovery headed by Meriweather Lewis, William Clark and Sacajawea. Students successfully completed the new Strimko puzzle for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on the importance of friends. Time/timelines were the discussion of the Explorations lesson. During the Systems lesson, students built a rheostat and an electronic quiz board.

5th Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Fetch which means to go after and bring back; to get as in a price. Today's explorer, Samuel Morse (the inventor of Morse Code), was really a famous artist who struggled financially. These students quickly solved the new Strimko puzzle. Our philosophy question centered around cause and effect. Students shared the Environmental Modification they researched by presenting their products.

2nd Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Robust. A person who is robust feels healthy and strong. Our explorer was Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Abraham Lincoln as President. It wasn't until he was married that Mr. Johnson learned to read, write and do sums. We tried a Strimko puzzle for the first time today and succeeded in solving the puzzle.

5th Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Fetch which means to go after and bring back; to get as in a price. Our philosophy question centered around cause and effect. The Exploration lesson had students focusing on columns and Towers.

3rd Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Schlep which means a stupid or clumsy person. Louis Pasteur, the Father of Microbiology, was today's explorer. Students completed a Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods, by using Jordan the Judge's Problem Solving Matrix, students were able to come up with their own classroom activity. Our Discoveries lesson had students researching a famous paleontologist. Students also experienced a reader's theater reading about those explorers. The final activity was a continuation of the interrelationship of members of the food chain.

2nd Grade - Our trip to Crystal Pond Woods found students deciphering coded puzzles and developing their own. When they finished, students were given some of Max's dominoes and had to match shapes instead of dots.

4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Hoax which means a practical joke; something intended to deceive. The explorer was General Robert E. Lee who led the Confederate armies during the Civil War. Students completed a Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity. Students book trailers for "Be a Perfect Person in Three Days". A discussion followed about our expectations for ourselves. Our final activity was to research and discuss hunger in America.

2nd Grade - The vocabulary word for this week was Spry. Someone who is spry is nimble or lively. Rose Greenhow, an excellent Northern hostess, was a spy for the South. Students completed a Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity.

4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Hoax which means a practical joke; something intended to deceive. The explorer was General Robert E. Lee who led the Confederate armies during the Civil War. Students completed a Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity. Students listened to the story Wump World and discussed how they could demonstrate the characteristic of "caring" to our earth. Our final activity was to research and discuss hunger in America.

5th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Parapet which is a low wall or railing. Anton Leeuwenhoek, inventor of the microscope, was today's explorer. These students completed a Quotation Quizzler for their warm-up activity. A philosophy question was the discussion of today's affective lesson. The question was: Why is "because" such an important word? The Structures study had students researching about various environmental modifications and creating a product through which to share their knowledge.

Over the next two weeks our students will be involved in state testing. Enrichment will have to be cancelled in order to accommodate all of the testing groups and schedule changes. We will resume our regularly scheduled classes on Monday, April 22.

3rd Grade - Occlude which means obstruct or block was today's vocabulary word. Bill Gates was today's explorer. He left Harvard University to begin his own company-Microsoft. Students completed Loosen Up drawings for their warm-up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods, students continued developing criteria to help them solve problems as well as learned how to narrow their ideas down to the best solution. The final activity was an introduction to the discovery of dinosaurs.

5th Grade - This group also joined their friends on Tuesday for part of the day. Today, they completed researching cities and how they have grown or shrunk. They also worked to finish building a space station.

He was the first to orbit the earth in 1962 and the oldest man to orbit the earth in 1998. Students completed a Loosen Up drawing for the warm-up activity. Caring was the topic of the affective lesson. The final activity was to change units of electricity to either watts, kilowatts or amperes.

They also completed a "Loosen Up" drawing for the warm-up activity. Thinking about other's feelings was the focus of the affective lesson. The afternoon was spent finishing researching cities and how they have grown or shrunk.
