5th Grade - Learning today began with the vocabulary word Rapacious which means Raptor-like, preying on others. In 1843 our explorer for the day, Ada Lovelace, created a computer program and she envisioned a machine that would compose, play music, draw pictures, and calculate numbers. Students completed a What In The World puzzle for the warm up activity. The social/emotional lesson focused on the many different hats people wear. The rest of the morning was spent deciding what project they wanted to invent or recreate for the Exploravision contest and researching its history and current technology.

4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Aversion which means a strong dislike toward something. Their explorer was Roberto Clemente who was a Hall of Fame baseball player and humanitarian. Students had to solve a What in the World puzzle for the warm up activity. For the affective lesson, students had to reflect on a previous project, analyze what worked and what did not work, then determine how that information could help them with future projects. They put that information to work immediately by setting up a calendar for the Exploravision project. Students then had to follow the directions of another student, who had received instructions from a third student to put together an unseen poster. This is preparation to help them as they design, build, and write the instructions for a robot that will be shared with another school in Edmond.

2nd Grade - This class took their weekly trip to Crystal Pond Woods where Isabel the Inventor taught students how to SCAMPER an old product into something new.

Students worked to solve a logic problem for the warm up activity. Learning things the hard way was the focus of today's affective lesson. As we get ready to begin the Exploravision project. students watched a video of a product students at Stanford University created from a problem and which is being used around the world. We also created a goals page to help us finish the contest before the deadline. For the Explorations lesson, students had just a few minutes to read about space exploration.

2nd Grade - These students compared the difference in Abel from before the hurricane to his behavior after being stranded on an island for a long time. The also had the opportunity to learn more about hurricanes from the Perfect Storm website where students could interact with the activity.

For the affective lesson, students reflected on past projects they had completed and determined how the past experiences can help them be successful in the future. Students watched a video of an invention students from Stanford University developed to help premature babies in third world countries survive premature births. For homework, students are to ask two adults questions regarding ideas that could be used to help them invent something for the contest. The final lesson centered around Space Exploration. A Surprise in the Middle drawing helped students understand the concept of listening to directions when a photo or drawing of the product was not available.

2nd Grade - The weekly trip to Crystal Pond Woods had students learning about Divergent Thinking. Isabel the Inventor and Yolanda the Yarnspinner encouraged students to write more vivid stories by adding creative, descriptive words that will help readers see what the author is trying to say through their writing.

3rd Grade - Conclude which means to stop or finish: to come to an end: to end in a particular way or with a particular action - was today's vocabulary word. The explorer was Tom Cruise who was a struggling reader as a child but has become a very talented actor. Students completed a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. We have covered all five of the characteristics of successful people. Today we looked at famous people and how they met each of the criteria of a successful person. The final activity was to create our own logic elimination puzzles or complete other logic puzzles we had started in the past.

5th Grade - Today's learning started with Diaphanous, the vocabulary word, which means translucent, transparent. The explorer was Tom Adams an inventor. Tom's friend, Santa Anna, suggested he try inventing with chicle from Mexico. When that failed, he tried chewing it and invented chewing gum. A Surprise in the Middle drawing was today's warm up activity. The focus of the affective lesson was to have the students identify what was important to themselves. We reviewed the results of the insulated cup project then discussed ways to improve upon their designs. The final activity was to discover different items we have as a result of cultural borrowing.

2nd Grade - This class was given some items and a tsk to accomplish. They were unable to solve the problem. They did learn that when they solve a problem, they have to take time to create a good plan before they try to solve the problem.
