2nd Grade - Students completed and shared the stories they started yesterday which was part of the lesson on developing their creativity.
3rd Grade - This class learned that the Judicial Branch is the branch of government charged with the interpretation of laws and the administration of justice; the judiciary. The thinker was Clint Eastwood who was fired from Universal Studios because they said he couldn't act. His determination overcame that obstacle to become a successful actor. Everyone worked together to solve the Stories With Holes problem for the warm up activity. The Convergent Thinking lesson in Crystal Pond Woods had student write their own logic elimination puzzles. In the Relationship lesson, students heard a little bit from the book Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry and learned some information about the Polynesian Islands.

4th Grade - Our vocabulary word for the day was Gloat which means people who are happy about other people's failure. The thinker was Roberto Clemente who used his influence to help others. For the affective lesson, students reflected on a past successful project and analyzed how that success can help them complete future projects. The final activity was to complete the language system and begin working on the solar system.

2nd Grade - Together, students solved the Stories With Holes mystery. We discussed task commitment as one of the five traits of successful people. This was a project we started two weeks ago but were unable to finish. Another trait of successful people is creativity which we started working on today and will develop more tomorrow.
The rest of the day was spent working with small groups of students and testing potential GATE participants.

2nd Grade - Today students learned Condensation means the process of changing a gas or vapor to a liquid or solid form. The thinker was James Monroe who served his country most of his life but died a poor man. Students began trying to solve the Stories With Holes mystery for the warm up activity.
5th Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Sedulous which means industrious. Their thinker was Samuel Colt who couldn't sell his revolver until the U.S. Army requested large quantities of them. Students worked together to solve the Stories With Holes problem for the warm up activity. For the leadership lesson, students began learning vocabulary regarding leaders. Time was taken to complete the Bridge Across America and we started working on the Explorvision contest assignments.

2nd Grade - These students were enjoying their annual Thanksgiving rotations. We will resume our regular schedule on Monday, November 27.
5th Grade - Our learning started with the vocabulary word Opprobrious which means shameful, infamous. John Pemberton, our weekly thinker, invented a popular drink called Wine of Coca which he sold as a brain tonic. When alcohol was banned in Atlanta, his new formula didn't sell as well as the original. The formula was sold a couple of more times before Asa Chandler added bubbles and calling it Coca-Cola. Students completed a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. The affective lesson had students considering leadership qualities in their friends. Our next major project will be the Exploravision contest which was introduced today. The rest of the class time provided students an opportunity to complete their Bridge Across America projects.

Their thinker was Walt Disney who was rejected by the Chicago Tribune but persevered to become a famous cartoonist. For their affective lesson, students had to evaluate how they were doing with the five characteristics of successful people and set goals to improve in those areas. 2nd Grade - Last week our affective lesson focused on goal setting. Today we finished those goals and started a new lesson regarding task commitment.

The thinker was Mary Cassatt who overcame the stigma of being a woman to become America's Great Impressionist. Students learned about following the directions and creativity with a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. For the affective lesson, students had to analyze and evaluate the various activities in which they are involved to determine if they are trying to keep up with those activities like a bunch of spinning plates. The rest of our time together was spent working on Language Systems assignments.

During the leadership lesson, students completed a "treasure" hunt in their small groups looking for ways their peers demonstrated leadership. Our weekly thinker was Tom Cruise who is a struggling reader and a successful actor. Students worked together to solve the 20 Questions Mystery Object for the warm up activity. We have been studying the five common characteristics of successful people; above average ability, task commitment, caring, courage, and creativity. Today students had to think of someone in their life who demonstrated those five characteristics. During our weekly trip to Crystal Pond Woods, students were challenged with more difficult logic elimination puzzles.

2nd Grade - Today we learned that Forecast means a prediction, especially as to the weather. President James Madison was one of our smallest Presidents. The warm up activity for this week was a 20 Question Mystery Object that we will try to discover tomorrow.
5th Grade - Students today learned that Diaphanous means translucent/transparent. Their thinker was Thomas Adams, an inventor and friend of Santa Anna. When Mr. Adams was trying to invent a cheaper rubber, Santa Anna suggested he try chicle from Mexico. When the chicle didn't make a good rubber, Mr. Adams popped it into his mouth and started making chewing gum.The warm up activity was a drawing where one students held the pencil while a partner moved the paper to create the desired object. Our affective lesson on leadership had students considering people who have touched their lives and how students can influence others. The final activity was working on the Bridge Across America project.
This afternoon, students from Ms. Ashton and Ms. Wood's classes had the opportunity to make up time missed last week because of their AR celebrations.

3rd Grade - All of the third grade classes enjoyed a field trip to the zoo. We will try to make up this class next week.
4th grade - We learned that Benevolent means kind and caring. The weekly thinker was Jimmy Carter who worked with Anwar Sadat (former President of Egypt) and Menachem Begin (former Prime Minister of Israel) to reach a peace agreement. These students worked with partners to complete a drawing of a snake. While one student held the pencil in place, the partner moved the paper around to reached the desired drawing. The affective lesson focused on each students' strengths and weaknesses and how "self talk" can be an encouragement. The rest of class was spent working on Google classroom assignments dealing with Language Systems.

2nd grade - Our warm up activity for this week was a creative thinking opportunity which really required some additional brain activity. One student would move a piece of paper to create the drawing while another student held the pencil. We then moved to our affective lesson where students began another activity demonstrating understanding of the fact that being gifted means different things to different people.
