2nd Grade - Students were introduced to the GoQuest program. More information will be going home to parents regarding this exciting opportunity. Unfortunately, this morning we experienced several glitches. However students did an excellent job of demonstrating the life principle of patience.

The rest of the day Dr. Rains worked with small groups around the building.

2nd Grade - The focus of the social/emotional lesson was that making and keeping friends may help alleviate stress. After listening to the story Stevie by John Steptoe, students drew pictures and included traits they felt were important in a friend.

1st Grade - This class learned that Calamity Jane or Martha Jane Canary risked her life to care for smallpox victims. They worked together to solve the Stories with Holes problem for the warm up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods, students practiced their convergent thinking using Venn diagrams.

4th Grade - Learning for this group started with Exploit which means a daring or heroic act. Thomas Jefferson, today's investigator, died July 4, 1826 the fiftieth birthday of the United States. This class was able to solve the Stories With Holes problem for the warm up activity. Setting goals was the focus of the affective lesson. The next system to be discussed is the metric system. Students estimated the length of ten items then measured the item to check for accuracy.

2nd Grade - Students learned that Shape is something seen in outline, as in silhouette. "Crazy Bet" or Elizabeth Van Lew acted like she was crazy in order to learn information about Southern troop movement to give to the Northern generals. A Stories with Holes problem was the warm up activity for today.

3rd Grade - This class learned that a Predator is any organism that exists by preying upon other organisms.The investigator, Louis Pasteur and the Father of Microbiology, was not a good student in school. This class quickly solved the Stories with Holes warm up problem In Crystal Pond Woods, students had the opportunity to use vidual and convergent thinking as they developed effective strategies for the game Numerical Quadrominoes. The Relationships lesson had students understanding that members of a food chain are interdependent.

3rd Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Carnivore which means an animal that eats flesh. The investigator, Bill Gates, dropped out of Harvard to build his Microsoft company. Students did some brainstorming for the warm up activity. The trip to Crystal Pond Woods had students practicing looking for visual clues as they completed several Plexer puzzles. The focus of the Relationship lesson was how members of a food chain are interdependent.

5th Grade - This group learned that Schlep is slang for a stupid or clumsy person. The Raytheon Company was building magnetron tubes for World War II when Percy Spencer accidentally invented the microwave oven. The warm up activity was to list ideas they brainstormed for three different topics. After a brief discussion about becoming more empathetic or understanding, students finished their documentaries and shared them with the class.

2nd Grade - We discussed the story Do You Want To Be My Friend by Eric Carle. Students then wrote the qualities they had that made them a good friend. We then had the opportunity to finish up the SCAMPER invention that we started last week.

3rd Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Carnivore which means an animal that eats flesh. The investigator, Bill Gates, dropped out of Harvard to build his Microsoft company. 2nd Grade - The warm up activity for this week was to have students brainstorm ideas for a particular topic. We then heard the story Do You Want To Be My Friend by Eric Carle. Tomorrow we will discuss this story.

4th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Candid which means honest and sincere. Langston Hughes, the investigator, was inspired to start the Harlem Renaissance during the Great Depression after meeting a previous investigator of ours Mary McLeod Bethune. For the warm up activity students had to brainstorm ideas for several categories. This week's affective lesson focused on the understanding that being gifted means different things to different people. Students spent the afternoon completing their Prezi presentations about a state system and then sharing them with the rest of the class.

2nd Grade - Our learning this week started with the vocabulary word Constants. Constants means something that is not changing or varying. There were two investigators: John Tyler and James Knox Polk. John Tyler became President when President Harrison died of pneumonia after one month in office. James Knox Polk became President when the Democratic Party couldn't agree on a candidate and he was chosen.

3rd Grade - This group learned that an Omnivore is an organism, usually an animal, which eats both animal and plant foods. One student announced that Henry Ford invented the automobile. We later learned that Henry Ford did not invent the automobile, but he did invent the assembly line a cheaper more efficient way to make cars. Students completed a scribble sculpture for the warm up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods, Students had the opportunity to use their visual and convergent thinking skill to play the game Web Walkers. The final activity was to learn about the Constitution and how laws produce freedom.

5th Grade - Today was the fifth grade Hall of Heroes. In order to participate in both activities this group had Enrichment yesterday.

2nd Grade - We traveled to Crystal Pond Woods where Isabel the inventor had students developing their creative thinking using the word SCAMPER.

5th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Occlude which means obstruct or block. The investigator, Elijah McCoy, invented a way for machines to be oiled without stopping the machines. People liked the product so much it became known as "the real McCoy." The focus of the affective lesson was on manners and what students did not want to see their children face. Students spent the afternoon completing Industrial Revolution documentaries and learning about coding.

2nd Grade - First we had a discussion about anger and how students can control their anger. Students then wrote a letter to Alexander offering choices for the next time he had a bad day. We then had the opportunity to make scribble sculptures.

2nd Grade - In order to prepare for our affective lesson on anger, students watched the video Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. We will discuss anger and complete an activity tomorrow.

1st Grade - Today's investigator, Rutherford B. Hayes, won the Presidency by 1 vote. The warm up activity had students completing a quotation puzzle. In Crystal Pond Woods, student developed their convergent thinking skills as they played an attribute game. There was also time to begin working on a logic elimination puzzle further strengthening their convergent thinking abilities.

4th Grade - These students learned that Idyllic means something that's pleasant and peaceful. Today's investigator, Matthew Henson, was the trusted assistant to Robert Peary and together they were the first people to reach the North Pole. The warm up activity was an opportunity to build scribble sculptures. Learning the difference between self-esteem and self-image was the focus of the affective lesson. Students spent the afternoon finishing their documentaries about Oklahoma. The few who finished early were able to complete some computer programming activities.

2nd Grade - 12 new students were welcomed to our class this morning. With all of the new students there were some procedures that needed to be covered so we were a little slow getting things done. We did learn that insulation means to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the leakage of heat. Belle Boyd, today's investigator, was a pretty Southern belle whom no one suspected of being a spy.

3rd Grade - These students learned that a Consumer is an organism usually an animal, which feeds on plants or other animals. The investigator, Albert Einstein had difficulty passing the entrance exam into engineering school because he disliked rote learning. Students followed the directions to complete the Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. We continued the study of visual thinking in Crystal Pond Woods with visual/puzzle analogies. The final activity was understanding that just rules and laws may strengthen the relationships between the government and the citizens. Students developed their own game with a specific number of rules then discussed the consequences.

5th Grade - The vocabulary word for this class was Spurious which means false, counterfeit. Friction matches were developed accidently by John Walker in 1826. The first one was three feet long. Students followed the directions to draw a Surprise in the Middle picture for the warm up activity. Understanding your family was the focus of the affective lesson. There were several activities going on this afternoon. We had a few ipads to work with so some students were able to create their documentaries. Those who were finished with the documentarywere able to do some computer science activities. Other students still had documentaries to finish.

2nd Grade - We finished the Surprise in the Middle drawing for the weekly warm up activity. Students then completed a drawing they started last week on how they deal with stress.

4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Plausible which means something that seems reasonably true but may not be. Milton Hershey, today's investigator, failed many times before he became successful in the candy business. This group followed directions to create the Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on the idea that everyone is different but everyone has their own unique gift. The afternoon was spent researching a state system and trying to develop a Prezi presentation.
