4th Grade - Our learning activities began by increasing our vocabulary. Students learned that Sullen means a person who is is sulky or quietly in a bad mood. Today's explorer, Mary Cassatt, broke with 19th century tradition and became an artist. The warm up activity required students to listen to directions and explore their creative abilities as they drew a Surprise in the Middle picture. The affective lesson had students analyzing their activities outside of school and determining how balanced those activities are in perspective. After reviewing what we have learned about E.coli, the last activity was to draw an eight fool Munrack from the planet Veltzar according to the story.
5th Grade - Students learned that Opprobrious means shameful, infamous. John Pemberton's popular "brain tonic" later became Coca-Cola. These students also drew a Surprise in the Middle picture for the warm up activity. The affective lesson had students thinking about things they learned that no-one had to teach them along with more introspective thinking. They also laid out a plan to create a presentation for the first or second grade classes about E.coli. Our final activity was to learn how to write a bibliography for the ExploraVision competition.
