3rd Grade - Today, students learned that Depth means the degree of intensity. Clint Eastwood, the explorer this week, was fired from Universal Studios because they said he couldn't act. Students discovered the Mystery Object that was today's warm up activity. The affective lessons that focused on the five traits of successful people came to a conclusion today. Students evaluated the program and were given a certificate of completion. Starting next week, the affective lessons will focus on Gifts. In Crystal Pond Woods, students started learning about divergent thinking and brainstorming. The Discoveries lesson compared Abel (from Abel's Island) before he was stranded on the island to his appearance after as they discussed the terms primitive and civilized.
5th Grade - Today's vocabulary word, Tantamount, means equivalent to, virtually the same. We discovered that chocolate chip cookies were an accident as we studied our explorer of the day Ruth Wakefield. These students also solved the Mystery Object puzzle for the warm up activity. The affective session had students designing a t-shirt that described themselves. Students were introduced to the ExploraVision project and brainstormed an idea they could develop for the contest. Finally, students reviewed what they learned about E.coli, how it is spread and how it can be treated.
Welcome to Washington Irving's Enrichment blog. This blog was designed to keep parents updated as to the activities of students participating in the program.
