3rd Grade - Today's learning began with our vocabulary word which was Depression. A depression is a period of time in which there is little economic activity and many people do not have jobs. The explorer was Whoopi Goldberg who was a make-up artist in a funeral home before she became a movie star. Students solved the Plexer puzzles for the warm up activity. The affective lesson had students write down what they thought of when they heard the word "gifts". The "gifts" were then sorted into group as students learned that the word gifts has many meanings. Students continued to learn about divergent thinking in Crystal Pond Woods. Today they learned about chain reaction contraptions. Rube Goldberg a famous cartoonist developed these projects and students created their own to help Isabella the Inventor crack open acorns. The final activity was to write a final chapter for Abel's Island.
5th Grade - These students learned that Rapacious means raptor-like, preying on others. The explorer was Ada Lovelace who developed a computer program in 1843. They also solved the Plexer puzzles for the warm up activity. They continue to think about what makes them unique in their affective lessons. Students put their E.coli presentations into a Prezi program and more research was completed for the ExploraVision project.
