4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Shoddy which means of poor quality or make; dishonest. Their explorer was Jackie Joyner-Kersee who overcame many obstacles to become an Olympic champion. Students completed the Quotation Quizzler for their warm-up activity. The affective lesson focused on the characteristics successful people demonstrate. One of those characteristics is caring. To demonstrate caring, students wrote pledges they could keep to others and the world around them. For the Systems study, students figured out how to convert watts to amperes and determined what was a safe circuit. The Exploration study had students performing open heart surgery as they focused on the importance of keeping all of the body systems healthy.

5th Grade - Their vocabulary word for today was Retrieve which means to recover; to find and bring back; to get back. The explorer was Elijah McCoy who invented a way to oil moving parts without having to stop the machine. His invention became known as the "real McCoy". These students completed a Quotation Quizzler puzzle for the warm-up activity. What was important to them was the focus of today's affective lesson. Our last series of lessons on the Industrial Revolution led to today's study of Settlement Structures and how the Industrial Age led to changes in city populations.
