1st Grade - This group of students learned that Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms as President. He also developed a tumor while he was president and had a dentist make him a rubber jaw. The warm up activity was a group project where everyone drew a little piece of a house for each person. In Crystal Pond Woods, students continued developing their divergent thinking skills by inventing something that would help Isabel the Inventor pick up acorns from the ground and get them into her hole at the top of the tree. Students also learned that patterns can be found in nursery rhymes.
2nd Grade - Today we learned the word Glacier means a very large area of ice that moves slowly down a slope or valley or over a wide area of land. Our explorer for today, Andrew Jackson, was shot at many times. One of those times he was hit in chest and the bullet was never removed. For the warm up activity, students took turns adding pieces to each other's drawings. The affective lesson focused on random acts of kindness. In Crystal Pond Woods, students learned that creativity can be exercised in writing as well as drawing or building things. We started to watch Abel's Island and will continue it next week along with the stories activities.
