3rd Grade - Our lessons today began by learning that Refined means free of unwanted substances. We also learned that our explorer of the day, Henry Ford, did not invent the automobile. Instead he invented the assembly line which made cars cheaper to buy. For the warm up activity students had to figure out nine textures found around the earth in the What in the World? puzzle. The affective lesson focused on the gift of animals. As we watched the original Lorax movie, we discussed the difference between extinct, endangered, threatened and protected species. The trip to Crystal Pond Woods had students begin Evaluative Thinking with developing observable, measurable, factual criteria.
5th Grade - Today we learned that Sojourn means a short stay, brief residence. Our explorer, Guglielmo Marconi, invented the radio. The warm up activity had students figuring out nine textures found on earth in the What in the World? puzzle. Students were to consider their future for the affective lesson. As we explored space today, we learned about radio receivers and geodesic domes. Students then designed and built their own radio receivers for their space stations. From space we moved to the ocean where we began our exploration of the ocean with a pretest.
