3rd Grade - Variance, an amount of difference or change, was today's vocabulary word. The explorer, Winston Churchill, was not a good student, but won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. Students worked together to solve a Quotation Quizzler puzzle for the warm up activity. As a post assessment of the Gifts study, students wrote about their greatest gift. In Crystal Pond Woods, students had to solve the problem of what to do for 30 minutes in class by developing and using criteria. The final activity was to compare archaeology and paleontology.
5th Grade - These students learned that Tranchant means incisive, forceful. Their explorer, George Crum, was angry when he developed the potato chip. For the warm up activity, students created loopy drawings of elephants. Students learned the difference between flotsam and jetsam. They also learned how ocean currents affect the climate of coastal cities.
