1st Grade - These students learned that the deaths of Presidents James Garfield and William McKinley were hastened by their doctors. Students worked together and solved a quotation quizzler puzzle for the warm up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods we began learning about inventor thinking where there are lots of answers. Today we started putting together our "brainfocals" to help us with brainstorming.
5th Grade - Students from the Monday class joined us today. We began our learning with the vocabulary word Sojourn which means a short sty, brief residence. The explorer was Guglielmo Marconi who studied physics so much that he failed his college entrance exams. He continued to learn on his own and invented the radio. Our affective lesson focused on making promises to ourselves now so that when we are faced with a "sticky" situation we will be prepared. After a quick review of continental drift and plate tectonics, our lessons moved to the ocean floor where we started research projects around the Mid Atlantic continental ridge.
4th Grade - These students learned that Plausible is something that seems reasonably true but may not be. Our explorer for the day was Langston Hughes who was part of the Harlem Renaissance movement during the Great Depression. We worked together to solve a Quotation Quizzler or dropquote.com for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on the generalization that successful people demonstrate creativity. Students were given a sack of materials and had to make an animal them write a story about the animal. After reviewing the movement of the earth's crust from last week, our exploration lessons will take us to be ocean floor next week.
2nd Grade - Today's affective lesson focused on our different emotions. We also finished some dinosaur math that was started last week.
