1st Grade - These students learned that Calamity Jane should have been called "Lucky" instead of Calamity as she helped people wherever she went. In Crystal Pond Woods, students used Venn Diagrams to help them search for clues that would lead to the one right answer.
5th Grade - Today this group celebrated National Eat Ice Cream for breakfast with their teacher as it was also her birthday. Their vocabulary word for today was Inception which means start or beginning. The explorers were Richard (Dick) Knerr and Arthur (Spuds) Melvin who invented the hula hoop and saved hundreds of jobs. The warm up activity was a Quizzles/logic elimination puzzle. Our exploration lesson focused on the generalization that the explorations of new frontiers may impact advancements in other fields of study. This led to a science experience regarding the earth's tectonic plates.
4th Grade - Today we learned the word Idyllic describes something that's pleasant and peaceful. The explorer Matthew Henson was on of the first men to reach the North Pole. We worked together to solve the Quizzles/logic elimination puzzle for the warm up activity. Understanding that being gifted means different things to different people was the focus of the affective lesson. Each student had an opportunity to write about the things that they do well. The rest of our class time was spent building the creatures from the other school according to the directions they sent us.
2nd Grade - This group traveled to Crystal Pond Woods where students deciphered encrypted codes to build visual thinking skills.
