My apologies for not getting back with you after the Winter Break, there were a few challenges that had to be worked out. Classes are up an running again.
1st Grade - These are some new students that I began working with last week in order to relieve the classroom teachers a bit during reading lessons. Primarily, they are learning critical thinking skills. They make a weekly trip to Crystal Pond Woods and then do activities around a book that was read.
2nd Grade - The word for today was Discern which means to detect or recognize. Woodrow Wilson was today's investigator. Due to a stroke and his wife taking charge of his activities, some called Mrs. Wilson the "First Woman President." Students then solved a logic puzzle.
5th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Expedition, a journey undertaken by an organized group of people with a definite goal. Robert Goddard, the Father of Modern Rocketry, was today's investigator. These students also solved a logic, elimination puzzle. Last week, the affective lesson focused on gathering facts before expressing your opinion. Today, students worked on trying to convince others of their opinion from the gathered information. After a brief overview of the Industrial Revolution last week, students researched facts about different aspects of that time period. Students put those facts into a narrative essay today.
Welcome to Washington Irving's Enrichment blog. This blog was designed to keep parents updated as to the activities of students participating in the program.
