3rd grade - Third graders started with discovering the definition of Stressful which means full of or tending to induce stress. Their explorer was Roald Dahl, who struggled in school yet became a famous author. These students worked to decipher the visual thinking puzzles for the warm up activity. Studies have shown that successful people have five basic characteristics in common . Those five characteristics will be the focus for the affective segment of third grade enrichment classes. Students traveled to Crystal Pond Woods to finish working on puzzles they started last week. The Discovery lessons for the next few weeks will center around the book Abel's Island. Since this is a chapter book and Enrichment is only a couple of hours a week, students watched the movie today.

5th grade - Today began by having students copy the vocabulary word (Quid Pro Quo - a Latin phrase meaning an equal exchange) while listening to a short story. Nicholas Cugnot, the first recorded attempt at inventing a horseless carriage was today's explorer. Students discovered the answers to visual puzzles for the warm up activity. The affective segment introduced students to understand what's important to them and explore qualities that most people hold dear. These will be things we discuss in detail throughout the year. Today's focus was courage. Students have been sequestered as jurors in the case of Marco Polo vs. the State of Venice. Mr. Polo has been charged with fraud. Another case we are working on is the power of one germ. Students have learned that several students in a midwestern town have become ill. Their assignment for the next several days is to look up what illnesses have those symptoms.
