It was good to be back after the winter weather break. Here are the activities that happened today:
2nd Grade - The vocabulary word for the day was Allude. Allude means to refer to casually or indirectly. John Quincy Adams, who was caught swimming in the Potomac River without his clothes, was today's ponderer. The warm-up activity was a Quotation Quizzler. Caring was the focus for the affective lesson. Students discussed the meaning of the pledge of Allegiance, then wrote their own pledges. Students learned another method of brainstorming called SCAMPER in Crystal Pond Woods.
3rd Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Avert which means to ward off; to turn away; to keep from happening. Whoopi Goldberg, a former funeral home make-up artist, was today's ponderer. These students completed the Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity. Students learned how to create chain reaction contraptions or more interesting ways to do simple tasks in Crystal Pond Woods. They spent the rest of the afternoon researching a Polynesian island.
Welcome to Washington Irving's Enrichment blog. This blog was designed to keep parents updated as to the activities of students participating in the program.
