2nd Grade - Expunge which means to remove; to delete; to erase was today's vocabulary word. The ponderer was Emily Geiger who swallowed a note she was delivering to one of George Washington's generals during the Revolutionary War so British troops wouldn't learn the secret. Students completed a logic puzzle for the warm-up activity. For the affective lesson, students listened to the book It's Okay to
Be Different by Todd Parr then drew a picture of how they are different. In Crystal Pond Woods, Yolanda the Yarnspinner had students brainstorm colorful words so they could write about a day in the woods.
3rd Grade - The third grade vocabulary word was Wad which means a small mass of soft material squeezed into a ball. George Gershwin (today's ponderer), the composer of Rhapsody in Blue, hated music when he was a child. In Crystal Pond Woods, students were provided with simple drawings. They then had to develop a creative, elaborate title for each drawing. Students spent a few minutes researching a Polynesian island. The concluding activity was learning the definition of several types of sciences.
