4th Grade - The fourth grade vocabulary word was Ponderous which mans heavy and massive. Their ponderer was Frederick Douglass who learned to read as a slave. By learning to read he was able to assist many more slaves obtain freedom. Students completed a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. The affective lesson was a self evaluation of the past several weeks' discussions. Students then completed their drawings of the Munracks and created brochures for the planet Velzar.
3rd Grade - Whimsical which means erratic in behavior; unpredictable; having a quaint or fanciful quality, was today's vocabulary word. The ponderer was Michael Jordan who did not make his high school varsity team as a sophomore. Students completed a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. In Crystal Pond Woods, Isabel the Inventor and Yolanda the Yarnspinner challenged students to take three sheets of construction paper and 36 inches of tape and put them together to build a structure that would hold the most encyclopedias of the class. The rest of the afternoon was spent finishing Polynesian island brochures.
