2nd Grade - The vocabulary word for today was Petulant which means ill humor, irritable, cranky. Martin Van Buren, who presented his first case as a lawyer at age 15, was today's ponderer. Students drew fist circles for the warm-up activity. The affective lesson focused on understanding why people tease others and how to deal with teasing. Students were given a noun and a verb and told to create a new invention with those two words during our trip to Crystal Pond Woods.
3rd Grade - Wail which means to cry out loudly was today's vocabulary word. Today's ponderer was Sylvester Stallone who was expelled from ten schools but overcame his struggles to become a famous actor. Fist circles was today's warm-up activity focusing on creativity and following directions. In Crystal Pond Woods, students worked with tangrams to make different animals in the woods. After listening to chapter 3 of Call It Courage, we discussed courage and fear. The Wonder lesson had students developing a hypothesis for what would happen to pennies left in chili sauce.
