3rd Grade - Today we learned that the Polynesian Islands are a group of islands in the Pacific lying East of Melanesia and Micronesia and extending from the Hawaiian Islands south to New Zealand. The investigator, Roald Dahl had difficulty as a student trying to get his thoughts on paper but later wrote several well known children and adult books. An unusual item was identified by playing 20 Questions for the warm up activity. Students then filled out an interest inventory to help me get to them better.Time was spent participating in the school Walk-a-Thon fundraiser.
5th Grade - There were two vocabulary words today: Quid pro quo which is a Latin phrase meaning an equal exchange, and Structure meaning a complex construction or entity.Today's investigator was Nicholas Cugnot who was the earliest recorded inventor of the automobile. Unfortunately, his horseless carriage was difficult to operate and the top speed was three miles an hour. Students played 20 Questions to identify the Mystery Object for the warm up activity. The affective lesson started with an explanation of learning styles. Last week each student had completed a learning styles inventory. The rest of the affective segment centered on courage. For the structures segment, students were introduced to the Bridge Across America or the westward movement.
