3rd Grade - Conclude which means to stop or finish: to come to an end: to end in a particular way or with a particular action - was today's vocabulary word. The explorer was Tom Cruise who was a struggling reader as a child but has become a very talented actor. Students completed a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. We have covered all five of the characteristics of successful people. Today we looked at famous people and how they met each of the criteria of a successful person. The final activity was to create our own logic elimination puzzles or complete other logic puzzles we had started in the past.
5th Grade - Today's learning started with Diaphanous, the vocabulary word, which means translucent, transparent. The explorer was Tom Adams an inventor. Tom's friend, Santa Anna, suggested he try inventing with chicle from Mexico. When that failed, he tried chewing it and invented chewing gum. A Surprise in the Middle drawing was today's warm up activity. The focus of the affective lesson was to have the students identify what was important to themselves. We reviewed the results of the insulated cup project then discussed ways to improve upon their designs. The final activity was to discover different items we have as a result of cultural borrowing.
2nd Grade - This class was given some items and a tsk to accomplish. They were unable to solve the problem. They did learn that when they solve a problem, they have to take time to create a good plan before they try to solve the problem.
