4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was Inhabit which means to live or dwell in. Rachel Carson, who campaigned against the use of DDT, was the explorer. They completed a "What in the World" puzzle for their warm - up activity. The affective lesson focused on terms that students deal with and how they should make adjustments. In the exploration lesson, students researched Mancala, an item that was borrowed from the African culture. The systems lesson had students developing a travel brochure for the make believe planet of Veltzar that should look similar to a real planet.
5th Grade - Their vocabulary word was Succor, which means help; relief; assistance. George Washington Carver, who had a secret garden, was today's explorer. They completed the Quotation Quizzler for the warm-up activity. The affective lesson focused on tolerance and empathy. After lunch students watched a finished purchasing supplies for their "trip" and learned about items that we have "borrowed" from other cultures..
