4th Grade - Goad, anything that pricks, prods or urges, was one of today's vocabulary words. The other vocabulary word was Fertile which means able to reproduce children  seeds, or fruits  highly productive. George Washington Carver, their explorer, discovered over 300 uses for the peanut. The affective lesson focused on tolerance and how to deal with "pet peeves". They also considered their personal strengths and weaknesses. Students created brochures for Veltzar, an imaginary planet, based on a real planet they researched. The Discovery lesson centered around cultural borrowing and identifying items we use that came from other countries.

4th grade students will begin building a creature from which they will develop directions to build the creature. Those directions will be sent to another Edmond school who will try to build the same creature from those directions. If you have any of the following items you could provide for the students to build with, that would be tremendously helpful:
Paper plates
cardboard tubes
Cereal boxes
Paper cups
Duct tape

5th Grade - Runt which means undersized, a small animal or person, was today's vocabulary word. Their explorer was Tom Adams, the inventor of chewing gum. Students completed visual thinking puzzles called Word Winks for today's warm-up activity. The affective lesson had students pondering questions about themselves. The Structures lesson had students adding to what will be a time line across the Oregon Trail. Finally, the Exploration study had students discovering items that we have borrowed from other cultures.
