5th Grade - Students learned that Pernicious means dangerous, deadly. Their explorer, Samuel Morse, not only invented the Morse Code, but also won a gold medal for artwork. Students quickly solved a couple of Stories with Holes mysteries for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on the question, "Is it always easy to tell what causes things to happen?" The afternoon was spent leaning about hunger in America as students gained an understanding that exploring societal issues such as hunger may promote solutions to that problem.

4th Grade - Today, we learned that Demeanor means someone's behavior toward others. The explorer, Jackie Joyner-Kersee overcame many obstacles to become an olympic champion. After learning the meaning of The Pledge of Allegiance, students wrote promises they could keep to other people. The rest of the class time focused on hunger and how to solve the American hunger problem.
