Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful break.
2nd Grade - This group started their learning activities with the vocabulary word Humidity. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. The investigator for today was Emily Geiger who volunteered to deliver a message to General Greene during the Revolutionary War. When she was stopped by the British, she swallowed the message so she could keep her secret hidden. Students then started a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity.
3rd Grade - Their vocabulary word was Justice which is the administering of deserved punishment or reward. The investigator, James Earl Jones, had a stuttering problem as a young child but took speech lessons to overcome that struggle. Students drew a Surprise in the Middle picture for the warm up activity. The focus of the STEAM lessons for the next several weeks will be chemistry. Students will be observing how steel wool can be kept from rusting in water. In Crystal Pond Woods, students had the opportunity to continue brainstorming with the emphasis being creativity and elaboration this week. The final activity was to spend time researching a Polynesian island.
4th Grade - We learned that something that is Ponderous is heavy and massive. Frederick Douglass, our investigator for today, learned to read as a slave which lead to the desire for freedom. This group also drew a Surprise in the Middle drawing for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. After realizing their areas of struggle, students were then able to develop an action plan to fix the problem. The afternoon had each group completing the directions for their robots. When they had the directions finished they traded their directions with another table. Each group then tried to draw the robot according to the written directions. Materials were collected and put with the directions which will soon be sent to the other school for assembly.
Welcome to Washington Irving's Enrichment blog. This blog was designed to keep parents updated as to the activities of students participating in the program.
