4th Grade - Today's vocabulary word was excessive - something that goes beyond the usual limit. The ponderer was George Washington Carver who saved poor southern farmers when he developed over 300 hundred uses for the peanut. Students had to draw themselves using only straight lines for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on social and emotional safety mechanisms. Students spent time working on the Wonder of the World project. We have started the long term project for the Systems segment, students started creating Munracks from the planet Veltzar.
In a few weeks, we will be creating creatures from recycled materials. Students will write down the directions for building the creature then send those directions to another school in Edmond. Those students will then try to recreate the creature from the directions sent to them. We will also be sent directions from another school to build their creature. This project takes a lot of cereal boxes, shoe boxes, cardboard tubes, and duct tape. If you could collect these items for us, the students would be very appreciative.
5th Grade - Tantamount which means equivalent to, virtually the same was the vocabulary word of the day. Ruth Wakefield who accidentally invented the chocolate chip cookie was today's ponderer. These students also completed the Straight Face drawings for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on things kids learn the hard way. Some students were able to complete their Wonder of the World projects today, others will finish next week. Today, groups decided the problem they want to solve for the ExploraVision contest and brainstormed ways to fix the problem.
