4th Grade - The word of the day was Dovetail which means to combine or unite into a unified whole; fit together harmoniously. Their ponderer was Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Not only were they famous movie stars, both devoted their lives giving to others especially severely abused and neglected children. The warm up activity was comparing two items determining what they had in common. The rest of the morning centered around bridges. We read about them, watched a brief video about them, then built bridges out of straws and masking tape.
5th Grade - Pejorative, which means disparaging/put down, was today's vocabulary word. Levi Strauss, inventor of blue jeans, was the ponderer of the day. Students completed a Quotation Quizzler for the warm up activity. Here is a website for similar puzzles to complete at home http://www.dropquotes.com/. The affective lesson focused on dependability. The rest of the afternoon was spent working to complete the Bridge Across America time lines. They are just about finished. If you have an opportunity during parent/teacher conferences to stop by, please come and see them.
