4th Grade - Loquacious, someone who talks too much, was today's vocabulary work. Rachel Carson, the author who was influential in getting DDT removed from usage, was today's ponderer. Students drew a picture called Surprise in the Middle for the warm up activity. The affective lesson focused on tolerance. The rest of the morning was spent researching for the Wonder of the World project.
5th Grade - The vocabulary word of the day was Sequester which means to remove and hold in isolation. George Washington Carver was the ponderer. Mr. Carver invented over 300 uses for the peanut to save southern farmers' farms. These students also completed the Surprise in the Middle picture. The affective lesson focused on tolerance and empathy. After lunch, students completed some more research on the Wonder of the World project.
